2 Young Lives – 2YL
The 2YL program continues its vital work with pregnant teenagers, providing mentorship and support to both the young mothers and their communities across Sierra Leone.
Our initiatives are designed to empower these girls and facilitate positive change and, together with the team, Mangenda Kamara just recently completed a short tour in three communities in connection with her PhD studies.
This is a brief report from Mangenda herself, covering the latest news from her perspective…
Being a second year PhD student requires me to collect data from my respondents at the two study sites. The team went last week to support in doing the interviews, and we are currently transcribing those interviews.
With all the transcriptions we have done, it is evident that the results from this research are going to bring out new insights as to why the occurrence of adolescents pregnancy is still so prevalent in our communities, and solutions gathered from the “victims” will also prove to be an excellent source of data since this is a recognised lack in the current research process.
From January 15-16, I also had the opportunity to attend a leadership and influencing Skills Development workshop for early career researchers in Kampala, Uganda, which was very educational and interactive, and from which I learnt a lot new things about leadership skills – for example, “A Formula for Conversation to Influence Change” – and I also had the opportunity to listen to the stories of inspirational leaders.
Some photos from the tour, the community engagement and two of our lovely “success stories”…
